Muskogee, Oklahoma (July 31, 2009) - Friday night might have been a turning point for Mike Goodman. The past OCRS champion has been in a drought and came to Outlaw Motor Speedway still looking for his first win of 2009. But the drought may be over as Goodman looked like his old self on Friday as he won the 25-lap main event at Outlaw Motor Speedway to become the fifth different winner in six events.
Goodman used a lap nine restart to his advantage to pass race leader Jonathan Beason. Goodman dove low in turn one to pull alongside of Beason and take away the lead. For the next 16 laps Goodman left no doubt as he pulled away from the field. Beason soon found himself locked in a battle with defending champion Jamie Passmore for second after the red flag waved on lap 20. Kyle Clark got into the turn two wall and flipped. Then before the field could get shutdown Dean Drake, Jr. was not avoid to avoid Clark and crashed into him. The impact left debris scattered on the track but fortunately neither driver was hurt.
Over the next two laps Passmore challenged Beason for the second spot before finally pulling ahead for good. Danny Smith charged into fourth behind Beason and Taylor Milton drove the 91X sprinter to a fifth place finish.
The night was not a good one for points leader Matt Sherrell. Sherrell came into show holding a 44 point lead over Passmore and looking for a third straight win. But when the night ended Passmore moved into the top spot by just four points.
Beason drove off the pole to lead over outside pole sitter Sherrell as the green flag dropped on the main event. But Sherrell soon discovered he had a tire going down as Drake got past for second on lap two then Goodman went by a lap later. On lap four Sherrell pulled to the infield and climbed out of his car where he finished watching the race. Meanwhile Beason continued to lead over Goodman until the yellow waved on lap nine.
