South Coffeyville, Oklahoma (October 17, 2009) -
Jamie Passmore moved one step closer to wrapping up the 2009 OCRS championship
with a dominating run on a cold Saturday night at Mid-America Speedway. Passmore
won the second heat race, the Same Day Auto Repair Dash for Cash then led all 25
laps of the main event to win for the second time this season.
Passmore set the tone for the evening when he
came from the back row to win his heat and pick up the maximum passing points.
After winning the dash to earn the pole of the 'A' Feature, the defending
champion jumped into the early lead of the feature with Travis Jenkins and Matt Sherrell close behind. Sherrell was
looking strong charging into second on lap two and was in the process of taking
the lead from Passmore when the red waved for Kyle Clark who spun on the
backstretch and collected Jackie York in the process.
The restart put Passmore back in front but
Sherrell quickly challenged pulling alongside of Passmore. For the next three
laps Sherrell tried to wrestle away the lead but Passmore would not give it up
and eventually pulled back out front. After a lap 10 yellow for Jonathan Beason
who came to a stop in turn one, it was Passmore, Sherrell and Jenkins setting
the pace.
Just past the halfway point the yellow waved
for Kurt Gariss who was stopped in turn one then on the restart the race went
yellow again as Sherrell suffered mechanical problems and coasted to a stop in
turn four.
Jenkins then took over the runner-up position
with Rafe Essary up to third. Following a lap 15 yellow for a Brian Roberts spin
Mike Goodman moved into third behind his teammate Jenkins. The top three of
Passmore, Jenkins and Goodman continued until the red waved on lap 22 after
Roberts flipped his 010 sprinter in turn three. Roberts was not hurt and
Passmore led the final four laps to victory over Jenkins, Johnny Kent who shot
into third after the lap 22 restart, Goodman and Danny Smith who made a late
charge for fifth.
Kent won the first 12-lap B main and Brian
McClelland chased him to the finish to pick up the first two transfer positions.
In the second B York set the pace but Gariss made a late charge from mid pack
pick up the final transfer spot.
The final event of the season is a two-day show
at Enid Speedway Park this Saturday night at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon
starting at 2. Passmore has a 82 point lead over Smith entering the Enid show.
